Picture the scene: it is a scorching hot day, and there isn’t a single cloud to be seen. A crystal blue sky stretches above you, and the only plans you have are some serious sunbathing, kicking back and relaxing with an ice-cold drink. You head inside to the ice maker…only to find yourself greeted with a puddle of water and no ice in sight.
There is good news to be had however; help is at hand! Here at Bob’s Appliance Repair, we are skilled in fixing all kinds of household appliances, and can have your ice maker back up and running in no time!
There are a few commonly found issues when it comes to ice makers, and these include:
- The Ice Maker Won’t Start
If your ice maker is refusing to turn on or start, the first thing to check is that it has not been switched to ‘Pause’ accidentally. You should also make sure that the bin is not full; some machines detect this and will pause automatically.
There is such a thing as too icy for your ice machine; you may find that setting the temperature too low will cause the filler tube to freeze. A low temperature could also be a sign of another issue, so give us a call!
- The Control Arm Needs to Be Adjusted
When the bin is full, the appliance should send a signal to the control arm to tell it to stop producing ice until there is sufficient space. If this isn’t happening, we need to check it out.
Make sure the filter and water lines are cleaned regularly – if they become clogged, you could find yourself with further problems down the line. If you are cleared out the filter and there are no obvious issues, you could have a faulty valve on your hands – call one of our experts to take a look.
It is also important to check that the water line has not frozen; this will impede the flow of ice to the bin. To check, turn off the water and wait a while, before turning it back on. You should hear water running as usual – if you don’t it could be frozen.
Leaks are one of the most common problems reported and can be the result of a range of different factors. Make sure the refrigerator is placed on a level, even surface, and that the fill cup is aligned correctly. You should also make sure that the lines are smooth, and not being kinked or restricted. If you have tried all of this and are still getting leaks, give us a call ASAP.
